Cheyenne Jackson (American Horror Story, 30 Rock, Oh, Mary!) shared a candid story on Sunday about getting help from actress Kathy Bates — a minor role on the CBS sitcom Matlock — that qualified him to keep receiving SAG-AFTRA health insurance in 2025.
“This year, two dear girlfriends helped me get there,” the out actor explained in an Instagram post. “I know what it feels like to be one job away… and what it means when someone actually comes through.”
💡 Context: Actors qualify for SAG-AFTRA health insurance by meeting “Minimum Earning Requirements” through acting jobs every single year. That minimum threshold is $28,090 in 2026, and $28,933 in 2027.
Given how many actors struggle with the same issue, Jackson had an idea.
“I’m starting a little series called ONE JOB AWAY, spotlighting fellow actors who are close to qualifying for their SAG health insurance and could use a little help with that next booking,” he wrote, calling on casting directors and producers to consider booking the actors shared on his page for a job. ”Sometimes we all need somebody to put our name in the room.”
This is a great idea, and we’re all-in to help.
